You posted when you chose to post, and I judged that post based on its content, not the time you submitted it in. You could have taken 3 days to post a reply and I wouldn't have judged you for taking that long. Since you left that unsaid, I had to reconcile the previous instructions with yours, which were incompatible.Īlso timeframe has absolutely nothing to do with it. Your answer was basically that you don't put it before the modem, which is obvious to you, but you needed to say it explicitly in order to contradict all the written instructions I'd received so far. You left so much unsaid that it was incomprehensible to someone like me, who, as you put it, has a basic lack of understanding about moca.Īlso, no, you didn't answer the central question, which revolved around the confusion of being told to put MoCA before my modem, and how that made no sense in my setup.

Your post on the other hand left me wondering what you were trying to say. But other posters replied in a way that made sense and were clearly addressing my questions. There's no explanation for getting ethernet in and out of the modem. Update: to show what I mean, this is the picture from the official support for the product I bought. I get that if it was a 2-in-1 unit this would be a lot simpler. Sorry if this is basic but literally every guide is doing a horrible job distinguishing between modem and router. So how am I supposed to get the moca IN to my modem via ethernet? That same jack? Then how do I hook up the router? my modem has only one ethernet jack, and that is to get the signal OUT of the modem and into the router. But here's the thing, if it's supposed to be Well, which is it? Does a MoCA box replace a conventional modem, and send signal straight to a router? No, it doesn't, right? So they really mean modem. The directions that came with the MoCA boxes and every site I've found online just say to put the box between the coax and the modem/router. So one side can have wifi and the other a wired MoCA connection. I just bought 2 MoCA boxes, because I have coax on either side of the house, and one side is for gaming and the other is for working from home, and wifi doesn't reach between the two (I could try an extender but that's a different conversation). Hi, the terms modem and router have become so damn conflated these days that even official documentation and blogs from supposed experts don't properly mark the difference, and I'm stuck.
